Since M.A.R.C. was founded in 2013, we have been cultivating gender neutral language surrounding menstrual activism and research to raise awareness of the many identities that menstruate.
At M.A.R.C. – we exclusively use the term menstruators to discuss bodies that menstruate, because some men menstruate, some women don’t and some folks identify outside the binary and menstruate. Paying close attention to the gendered aspect of menstruation is key to deconstructing the shame and secrecy menstruators are socialized to abide by.
Only once we recognize the many narratives that construct the menstrual expirence, can we do away with the feminine hygiene industrial complex and liberate menstruation.
